The privacy of your information is important to Vision Prize Prediction Systems, and this Privacy Policy explains the ways we use, collect, share and store information about visitors to visionprize.com (the “Vision Prize Website”) and the participants (“Players”) in the Vision Prize prediction contest (“Vision Prize Poll”). In this Privacy Policy, “we” or “us” means Vision Prize Prediction Systems, its service providers, and any successors in interest.
We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time, as necessary and as our service develops. The most current Privacy Policy will be available at visionprize.com/privacy. Material changes to this Privacy Policy will be announced on the Vision Prize website, and will be emailed to registered Players. Your continued use of the Vision Prize Poll or the Vision Prize Website constitutes acceptance of the Privacy Policy. Please be aware that if you click on any links that take you to other sites, the privacy policies and terms of use of those other sites will apply, and not this Privacy Policy.
A “Visitor” is anyone who visits the Vision Prize Website at visionprize.com.
We collect standard analytics information about visitors to the Vision Prize Website. This information may include IP address, referring site, pages visited, date and time of the visit, and how long a Visitor viewed any given page. This information is used to help improve the Vision Prize Website and for other internal purposes. This information is not sold to any third parties. We may provide third parties with aggregate information regarding Visitors to the Vision Prize Website. This aggregate information will contain nothing that can identify you, and will not contain any personally identifiable information that refers or relates to you.
Player Profile Information:
“Player” is a registered participant in the Vision Prize Poll. We collect information from Players during the registration process and display the information on the Player profile page. The collected and displayed information includes the Player’s affiliation (college/university, lab, organization, company, etc.), position (e.g. graduate student, faculty, research scientist) and research field(s). Players also have the option to add links from the Player profile page to their public profiles on professional social networks like LinkedIn or elsewhere. A Player may close their account — or update their profile information — at any time.
Player Participation Information:
Players are encouraged to share their real name with other Players. However, if a Player wishes to participate in the Vision Prize Poll pseudonymously, the Player may “hide” their real name on their profile, and instead use the username chosen during registration. Regardless of the privacy options selected, it is our intention that a Player’s individual responses to polling questions always remain anonymous. However, Players should keep in mind that due to the public nature of the Vision Prize Poll, certain information, including their responses to Poll questions and their real names, may be discoverable from aggregate polling data even when their individual responses to polling questions remain hidden.
Other Information:
In addition to Player profile information we also collect any information Players provide to us in an email or support request. This information will be used for internal purposes and will not be sold to third parties.
We take the security of your information very seriously. The Vision Prize Service runs on servers that are in a secured physical and network environment. Reasonable efforts are made to secure web servers, networks, host operating systems and databases against unauthorized access. Please remember that the security measures taken above are not foolproof; no website can guarantee that personally identifiable information will be protected in all situations. Therefore we can only state that we will make a reasonable effort to protect from unauthorized access the information that you provide, and that if we are notified of a breach, we will comply with applicable law. However, unless a statute provides you a right that cannot be waived, you specifically waive and covenant not to sue us for any data loss or breach of our system resulting in loss of personal information.
We aggregate demographic information, some of which will be made available to the Vision Prize Website and Player community. We may also provide third parties with aggregate information regarding Players. This aggregate information will contain nothing that can identify you, and will not contain any personally identifiable information that refers or relates to you. We believe that aggregating the data in this way benefits both you and the academic, scientific and technical communities at large.
We will share your information in response to a valid court order or legal process served on us. We may also share your information if we feel that disclosure is necessary to defend our rights.
Notwithstanding the above, in the case where we merge, sell Vision Prize, or otherwise transfer operational control of Vision Prize to a new owner, whether we do so directly or indirectly, you hereby authorize us to transfer all information collected about you to such purchaser, so long as such purchaser agrees to abide by the terms of this Privacy Policy.
